2014 – HATTRICK by Johan Chang

LQM member Johan Chang was among the four EPFL researchers being awarded an SNSF Starting Grant. This completes an impressive hattrick that started by the award of a SNF professorship and the appointment as a tenure track professor at the university of Zürich – all within just one year.
The Swiss National Science Foundation Starting Grants are this year’s substitute for the prestigious ERC grants for the Swiss research community. Johan’s SNSF project is entitled “Quantum MAny-body Physics in Solid” and has as objective to exploit large scale facilities to investigate and discover new interesting quantum matter. The 1.6 mCHF project will run for five years (2015-2020). Arriving to LQM in 2012 on an AMBIZIONE grant and now departing to build his own research group, Johan says that: ”LQM - EPFL is an excellent platform for young scientists with ambitions to advance their career”. We are proud to have helped Johan onto the next level of his career and wish him a bright future.
