DomoSafety raised 935,000 CHF from private investors to accelerate the commercialization of its intelligent system of preventing domestic accidents. Its product is primarily intended for the elderly.

DomoSafety was founded by three former EPFL students in Communication Systems - Edouard Goupy, Guillaume Dupasquier and David Schmalz. It develops risk-prevention systems for elderly people at their homes. Launched in 2009, the company achieved its first sales in 2012. It currently has 10 employees and a backlog that exceeds 500,000 CHF.

DomoSafety, which is currently housed at the EPFL Science Park, has developed a technology that provides seniors with a secure place to live in. Motion sensors are installed at strategic locations in the apartment (bed, kitchen, bathroom, front door) and communicate with a central unit. The system identifies decreased mobility, problems with nutrition or cognitive issues. This allows the family or caregivers to adjust their monitoring. In case of a danger, the device alerts the caregivers. The aim is to enable elder people to maintain their independence as long as possible and to delay their entry into a nursing home. In Switzerland, the number of seniors will double by 2050.

The startup has recently established a pilot project with medical-social centers. Its product has been installed in 40 apartments of centers' clients in Yvonand and Morges. "We rely heavily on the pilot not only to improve our product through feedback, but also to be able to present our future customers a product that has already proven itself," concludes Nicolas Chanton, the company's CFO.
