Best Student Paper award for Tam Nguyen Thanh & Quoc Viet Hung Nguyen

The 18th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications, honored Tam Nguyen Thanh, Quoc Viet Hung Nguyen, and co-authors, with Best Student Paper Award for their “On Leveraging Crowdsourcing Techniques for Schema Matching Networks” paper.

DASFAA is an annual international database conference, located in the Asia-Pacific region, which showcases state-of-the-art R&D activities in database systems and their applications. It provides a forum for technical presentations and discussions among database researchers, developers and users from academia, business and industry.

The honored paper addresses the problem of establishing the links between publicly-available data sources. It demonstrates how to leverage crowdsourcing techniques to improve the matching quality through user validation.

Tam Nguyen Thanh and Quoc Viet Hung Nguyen are both affiliated with the Distributed Information Systems Laboratory (LSIR) headed by Prof. Karl Aberer. Tam Nguyen Thanh is a student in the Research Scholars MSc Program at EPFL, while Quoc Viet Hung Nguyen is a PhD student in the LSIR.
