The EPFL IEEE Student Branch successfully organized the local Student Paper Contest. Five students submitted their papers, which were rigorously reviewed. The best paper has been already submitted as the official entry from EPFL to the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest 2014.

The EPFL IEEE Student Branch successfully organized the local IEEE Student Paper Contest (SPC), for the 3rd consecutive year. Like every year, the event addressed to Master students who wanted to write a scientific paper about their personal work or academic project. Here at EPFL, we did a first-level selection after which, the best paper was sent as official entry from EPFL to the IEEE Region 8 Student paper contest. After a second-level selection, the finalists of the IEEE Region 8 competition will be financially supported to present their papers at IEEE R8 MELECON Conference, 13-16 April 2014, Beirut, Lebanon. In addition, the finalist papers will be published in EUROCON 2014 conference proceedings and included in IEEEXplore Database.

This year at EPFL, five students submitted their papers from very different fields (computer science, micro engineering etc.). The papers were evaluated and graded for their scientific content, paper structure, clarity, etc., based on the official jury guidelines of the SPC 2014. Out of the five submissions, the paper entitled Homometric Sets in Diameter-two and Outerplanar Graphs, by Slobodan Mitrovic (MSc. Computer Science) proved to be the best paper and on 15th of December was submitted to the IEEE Region 8 SPC. We hope that at the IEEE Region 8 competition, our selected paper will demonstrate the top quality of EPFL and its students.

The Student Branch would also like to thank all the reviewers for their help and dedication without which this local contest could not have taken place.
