09.12.2014 - IEEE student branch and Robopoly organized the first of its kind workshop on the topic of IoT at EPFL, in which the participants had a hands on experience of developing applications for the internet-of-things (IoT)

Two EPFL associations -- the IEEE student branch and Robopoly -- joined hands to organize the first ever hands-on workshop for students on the internet-of-things (IoT) to introduce them to this upcoming revolution in technology. This workshop, which was sponsored by Texas Instruments (TI), saw participation by more than 25 students. After an hour of initial introduction to IoT by experts from TI, each participant received TI’s latest IoT development platform, the Simplelink Wi-Fi CC3200 Launchpad. The participants then experimented with the kits and learned to develop applications for connecting the platform to the internet and read the weather at any location and to send the current temperature at their location to the cloud. A team from Robopoly demonstrated their smartphone controlled robot developed using the same platform.

Impressed by the enthusiastic participation of students and the success of the workshop, TI University program manager, Nuria Linn (who flew in especially to oversee the event) promised to hold more events for students at EPFL. This workshop is yet another example of the commitment “to learn, to contribute and to have fun,” by the EPFL IEEE Student Branch and Robopoly.

The two associations thanks its volunteers and as well Texas Instruments for organizing the workshop and making it a success.
