Last Thursday 11th September 2014, at the Université Catholique de Louvain, a research grant "Christian Leleux" was officially awarded to Jean-Denis Thiry, who is currently a PhD Student at the laboratory LIPID of EPFL. The award was granted in the presence of the donator Mr. Christian Leleux and the secretary general of the Louvain Foundation Mrs. Caroline Mouligneau. The award was offered by LOCI faculty jury, composed of professors Bernard Declève, André De Herde and Jean Stillemans.

His research, on the theme "Architecture, daylight, well being and health”, investigates the impacts of new technologies dealing with the conception of architectural spaces in the perspective of sustainable development. On the basis of recent findings in photobiology concerning our actual biological lighting needs, the project aims to strengthen the interdisciplinary links between daylighting conditions in architecture and human health. The aim is to rethink and improve the design process of the space (plan-section-elevation), both in new construction and renovation. Besides funding research stays abroad, this grant will allow him to participate in international conferences and carry out extensive literature research on this novel topic.
