Laurent Vulliet appointed to the Swiss Academy of Engineering Science

CEO of BG and Professor at EPFL, Laurent Vulliet has been appointed to the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW). The graduation will be held in Neuchâtel on May 15th, 2014.

SATW is a network of eminent personalities from the Swiss various fields of technical sciences. From the world of education, research, economics and politics, its members are appointed for life. Independent on the political level, the SATW aims to identify the challenges and opportunities of new technologies and to inform the public. The results aim at supporting the political world and the society through professional assessments and recommendations for effective decision making. Moreover, an important mission is to increase the awareness and the understanding of the technique within the population. For instance, SATW developed, especially to the attention of young people, the attractiveness in technical activities, with the objective to reduce the shortage of qualified staff in Switzerland.

Like its sisters science academies SAHS (humanities), SAMS (Medical Sciences) and SCNAT (Natural Sciences), SATW is recognized as a scientific institution by the Federal Act on research. Approximately 80 percent of its annually available funds , 1.8 million francs, are granted by the Confederation. The organisation is a member of the Euro-CASE (European Council of Applied Sciences and Engineering), and of the global networks CAETS (International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences).

The appointment of Laurent Vulliet has been done, according to: " ... in recognition of his outstanding contributions to multidisciplinary research, high level teaching and promoting the role of engineers for a sustainable development of our society ".
