New portal for ethical approval requests to Swiss Ethics Committees

Requests for ethical clearance of research projects involving humans can be submitted electronically to the Swiss Ethics Committees as of 2 November 2015.
The Portal BASEC (Business Administration System for Ethics Committees) will be the new platform for the submission of requests for ethical approval to the Cantonal Ethics Committee of Vaud ('Commission cantonale d’éthique de la recherché sur l’être humain', CER-VD) and other Swiss Ethics Committees.
The BASEC system is inter-active and based on the information provided by the applicant, the platform will indicate which documents need to be uploaded and which parts of the on-line form need to be completed. Explanations are given to guide the applicant through the application process. All Swiss Ethics Committees will be administering research projects in a uniform way via the platform.
Researchers are strongly encouraged to submit their project on-line as of 2 November 2015. It is still possible to submit projects via traditional methods (paper, CD, e-mail) until the end of 2015. As of 1 January 2016 it will be mandatory to submit applications through the on-line portal.
