PhD student receives Honorable Mention at the 2011 Mobility Award
22.02.12 - Mandana Sarey Khanie, PhD Candidate at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Performance-Integrated Design (LIPID), was recently given a honorable mention at the Mobility Award 2011 of the doctoral programme in Civil and Environmental Engineering (EDCE) at EPFL.
Mandana started her thesis work in October 2010 on trying to strengthen our understanding of visual discomfort in workplaces with a particular focus on glare and eye movement patterns. More specifically, she intends to unveal relationships between view direction patterns and perceived comfort resulting from light distribution, so as to form a basis on which lighting conditions, glare perception and gaze patterns can be brought together. The Mobility Award will, on one hand, open the opportunity for her to interact with a leading-edge team in daylighting and building technologies at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and on the other hand to gain insights on experimental protocols for comfort measurements. One paper on preliminary results has been presented at the CISBAT conference, which took place at EPFL in September 2011. She also presented a poster at the Swiss-Emirati Friensdship Forum and another poster at the Academic Forum of the 4th Velux Daylight Symposium.
