Prof. Brice Lecampion, head of the Geo-energy Laboratory - Gaznat Chair on Geo-energy, (School ENAC) has been awarded an Assistant Professor (AP) Energy grant by the SNSF. The SNSF awarded seven AP Energy Grants for the overall call 2014. These grants are aimed at promoting young scientists in the field of energy research.

The objective of the project of Prof. Lecampion - Hydraulic stimulation of anisotropic rocks for geo-energy - is to advance the understanding of hydraulic stimulation in anisotropic rocks by combining experimental and theoretical investigations. Hydraulic stimulation is widely used in geo-energy: by locally increasing the reservoir permeability in an engineered manner, it makes the production and injection of large amount of fluids within geological formations economically possible. The theoretical understanding and numerical models developed in the course of this project will results in better risk assessment and engineering of geo-energy projects. This research will also foster the development of important competencies needed to unlock Switzerland geo-energy potential.

This project is integrated within the Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research (SCCER): SoE - Supply of Electricity.
