Majed Chergui honored in Kuwait

Professor Majed Chergui has just received an award from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences for his work on ultra-rapid chemical reactions.

In Kuwait City, on December 14, 2010, the Emir of Kuwait – Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah – presented the award of $100,000 to Professor Majed Chergui of the Laboratory of Ultrafast Spectroscopy. This is actually the most important scientific prize in the Arab world, and is designed to reward current research in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

“Professor Chergui has made a significant contribution to both the physics of condensed matter and that of chemical and biological systems“, was the verdict of the Foundation’s jury. “He has also contributed to the understanding of ultra-rapid phenomena in Chemistry and Biology, as well as in the area of nanoparticles.”

It’s worth mentioning that Majed Chergui is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Chemical Physics, and that until last June he presided the DYNA network of the European Science Foundation.
