The Swiss National Science Foundation’s Assistant Professor (AP) Energy Grants are aimed at promoting young scientists in the field of energy research. They are intended for newly-employed assistant professors, generally for the purpose of developing inter-university competence centres (Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research, SCCER).

In November 2014, 17 applications were submitted in response to the 2nd AP Energy call for proposals. The National Research Council’s evaluation commission also consulted experts from outside the SNSF as part of the evaluation process. The SNSF awarded seven AP Energy Grants (success rate of the call 41%). The EPFL performed quite well: 3 out of 7 grants were attributed to EPFL PATTs:

Prof. Brice Lecampion - Geo-energy Laboratory, Gaznat Chair on Geo-energy, School ENAC - Hydraulic stimulation of anisotropic rocks for geo-energy
SCCER: SoE – Supply of Electricity

Prof. Wendy Queen - Laboratory of functional inorganic materials, School SB - Nanoporous Adsorbents for Energetically Favorable Industrial Gas Separations
SCCER: NA

Prof. Marie Violay - Laboratory of Experimental Rock Mechanics, School ENAC - Hydro-Mechanical Couplings inEnhanced Geothermal Reservoir _ Earthquake nucleation
SCCER: SoE – Supply of Electricity

The above 2014 grantees will join the list of AP Energy 2013 grantees:
Prof. Ardemis Boghossian – school SB – Recombinant, Photosynthetic Bacteria for Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conversion. SCCER: N.A
Prof. Jeremy Luterbacher – school SB – Solvent-based methods for biomass conversion. SCCER: BIOSWEET – Biomass for Swiss Energy Future
Prof. Jürg Schiffmann – school STI – Small-scale turbomachinery for decentralized energy. SCCER FURIES – Future Swiss Electrical Infrastructure / SCCER FEEB&D – Future Energy Efficient Buildings & Districts

The next and last call for proposals was scheduled for mid-August 2015 and the submission deadline is 13 November 2015.
