The opening of the new EPFL’s central administration building took place yesterday with the presence of Patrick Aebischer, EPFL president, Dominique Perrault, founder of the Dominique Perrault Architecture agency, and Henry Muhr, CEO of Steiner SA.

The new administration building has been built over the metal frame of EPFL’s old central library (replaced by the Rolex Learning Center). With nearly 5100 square meters, it will house the school’s central services (human resources, financial services, the planning and logistics vice presidency ...) as well as a post office and a coffee shop - restaurant. This transformation, at a cost of 14 million francs, was financed by the Swiss Federal government through the Board of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology as part of its real estate’s maintenance.

Dominique Perrault, the architect behind the renovations, has announced the transformations that are and will be taking place on the campus. A new colorful enameled glass facade will be located on the campus’ original outlines, marking the intersection of two major areas. The north - south axis will be connecting the Rolex Learning Center to the M1 metro station and the future Convention Center (currently under construction). The east - west axis on the south will have a pedestrian route giving access to the University of Lausanne (UNIL) on the east.

The BI building materializes the first stage of the campus reconfiguration plan led by the French architect. Through its use of colors the BI building combines the campus hyper-rational organization system with the ambitious school transformation project.

To discover the numerous projects led by Dominique Perrault in Switzerland and elsewhere, an exhibition is taking place on the ground floor of the new building until June 29th. Access every day from 13h to 18h, free entrance.
