Dimitar Jetchev from the Laboratory for cryptologic algorithms (LACAL) headed by Prof. A. Lenstra, is the winner of the annual prestigious presidential award John Atanasoff, granted by the Bulgarian President's Office.

The John Atanasoff award is awarded annually for accomplishments in the area of information and communication sciences and technologies. 

Dimitar is currently the coordinator for EPFL for the European 7th framework program: ECRYPT II. Dimitar works in the area of mathematical cryptology, more specifically in the elliptic curve cryptology. The main applications of his research are in data encryption, digital signatures, identity based encryption and security in the cloud. Previously, he worked at Microsoft as a summer intern, where he built the software-licensing scheme for Windows Vista and other products of the company.
