Our warm congratulations to our researchers: in the 2013 Leiden survey, the EPFL is ranked as first European university in the fields of biomedical and health sciences research.

Thanks to the tremendous work and the high level publications of the EPFL researchers in the biomedical fields, mainly homed or affiliated with the Faculty of Life Sciences, we are proud to read that our institution ranks highest in Europe, and 4th worldwide, in biomedical and health sciences.

The Leiden Ranking
Since early 2007, Leiden University’s Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) has developed a new ranking list based exclusively on bibliometric indicators. The CWTS ranking includes the 500 universities worldwide with the largest publication output in the Web of Science database. This ranking list proposes four different indicators, each resulting in a different ranking as follows:

Largest number of publications (P)
Number of citations per publication (CPP)
Total number of publications multiplied by the relative impact in the given field (P*CPP/FCSm)
The number of citations per publication divided by the average impact in the given field (CPP/FCSm)
