The 2015 Thesis Prize for applied aspects is awarded to Tobias Herr, now at the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), Time and Frequency Division, Neuchâtel, Switzerland, for his work on solitons and dynamics of frequency comb formation in optical microresonators. The Quantum Electronics and Optics division (QEOD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) will announce the 2015 winners of its prizes in a special Plenary Ceremony during CLEO®/Europe-EQEC 2015 to take place on Tuesday morning, June 23rd, 2015, beginning from 10:30, Room 1.

Brief Biography:
Tobias Herr is a researcher at the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), Time and Frequency Division, Neuchâtel, Switzerland. His research interests are time and frequency metrology, non-linear optics, laser spectroscopy and applications in astronomy. He obtained his PhD under the supervision of T. J. Kippenberg at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in 2013, after having worked before at the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics (2009 – 2010). His thesis is entitled “Solitons and dynamics of frequency comb formation in optical microresonators”. He obtained his Diploma/Master in Physics in 2008 from the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
