Prof. Villanueva has received the Microelectronic Engineering Young Investigator Award 2014 for his contributions to the science and technology of nano-electro-mechanical systems. For more details, see here.

Microelectronic Engineering (MEE) is celebrating 30 years (1983-2013) of contribution in the field of processing for Micro- and Nanoscale Device and System fabrication. As part of the celebrations, MEE is inaugurating a series of Young Investigator Awards and MEE Lectureships. The inaugural Lectureship was presented at the 2014 MNE Conference.

Following the internationally publicized call for applications, nominations for 30 outstanding candidates were received and evaluated by a panel of 6 international members of the MEE Editorial Board. Main ranking criteria were the overall accomplishment of the candidates, the originality and relevance of their work and the degree of independence they have gained. Since the evaluation process resulted in a virtual tie of two candidates, the committee decided to present 2014 Young Investigator Awards and MEE Lectureships to:

Dr. Guillermo Villanueva, SNSF Assistant Professor, Advanced NEMS Group, EPFL, Switzerland
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the science and technology of nano-electromechanical systems.

AND

Dr. Monika Fleischer, Junior Professor, Plasmonic Nanostructures Group, Institute for Applied Physics, University of Tübingen, Germany
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the science and technology of nano-optics.
