Przemyslaw Kornatowski one of “Innovators under 35"

Przemyslaw Kornatowski (LIS, EPFL & NCCR Robotics) has been shortlisted in the Polish chapter of the Innovators under 35 competition for his work with robots for rescuing victims after disasters.

The prestigious Innovators under 35 competition was founded in 1999 and is run by the MIT Technology Review to find and publically recognize young people who develop technologies that will transform the world around them.

Kornatowski’s inclusion in the shortlist is due to his major contributions to the design of the EPFL LIS Gimball robot, a collision resilient flying robot. Recognising that robustness was preventing state of the art flying robots from being used in real world applications, he worked with a team from the LIS on creating the protective structure that houses a unique Gimbal system and allows it continue flying while bouncing off obstacles.

Kornatowski recently began work on a PhD project developing folding drones, thus providing an elegant solution to another real-world problem preventing drones from being used to find victims in disaster zones – their transportability.

On 23rd June, all ten shortlisted finalists will present their work at the Bitspiration Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
