ENAC and Eawag professor Urs von Gunten has won the President’s International Fellowship for Distinguished Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The President’s International Fellowship for Distinguished Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) recognizes outstanding researchers from across scientific disciplines. It aims to foster closer ties between Chinese and foreign researchers by inviting recipients to China for a lecture tour at CAS-affiliated institutions. Urs von Gunten, joint professor at EPFL’s Institute of Environmental Engineering and at Eawag, was among the thirty scientists, and only three environmental engineers, to be recognized in the award’s second edition.

Urs von Gunten’s research focuses on the treatment and quality of drinking water. von Gunten is a leading expert in the application of ozone and other oxidants in drinking water and wastewater, both for disinfection and elimination of micropollutants. He is also the director of the Competence Center for Drinking Water at Eawag. During the two-week lecture tour that is scheduled for this September, Urs von Gunten will visit the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences in Beijing and the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei City. There he will present his research on urban water management and water pollution control, enhanced wastewater treatment and advanced oxidation processes for micropollutant abatement.
