The Biomolecular Screening facility (BSF), housed at EPFL’s School of Life Sciences, is a multidisciplinary laboratory founded in 2006, and whose mission is to perform high-throughput screening for research projects in the Life Sciences.

Today, the BSF is proud to also host “ACCESS” (Academic Chemical Screening Platform for Switzerland), which provides the scientific community with chemical diversity screening facilities and know-how in chemical genetics. ACCESS has been developed within the context of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) – Chemical Biology, one of the three NCCR projects directed or co-directed by EPFL, the others being NCCR-SYNAPSY and NCCR-Robotics.

The recent NCCR report published by the Swiss National Science Foundation describes how a decade ago only big pharmaceutical companies were able to test large collections of chemical compounds. But in 2006, an academic version of a screening facility, the BSF, became operational at EPFL’s School of Life Sciences.

The use of this platform now extends to all scientists participating in the NCCR-Chemical Biology project and beyond.
