This work, which the student carried out for his semester project, was recently published in Physical Review Letters.

Glass slides that stand to revolutionize fluorescence microscopy

These new slides can both amplify and direct light, making them ideal for applications ranging from early-stage diagnosis to the rapid archiving of pathology samples.

A collective of young farmers now runs the Bassenges farm

Published:25.02.20 — Farmland owned by UNIL and EPFL will now be run by a young collective with the goal of growing fruit, vegetables and trees, and breeding farm animals, through a sustainable, closed-loop system. The farm’s products will be sold directly on site and on the EPFL and UNIL campuses.

Box office success thanks to artificial intelligence

Published:24.02.20 — Largo Films, an EPFL spin-off, unveiled its data-assisted movie-making software to producers and other movie-industry specialists today at the Berlin Film Festival. Largo’s program uses artificial intelligence to generate recommendations for just about every stage of the filmmaking process – from putting together a script and soundtrack to selecting the actors and emotional register – all in just a few minutes.
