The Institute for Area and Global Studies organized the second workshop in Rome

The workshop on historic urban landscape "A comparative perspective between Mexico-City and Rome" was hosted at the Istituto Svizzero di Roma between December 1-3, 2016. This workshop is the fourth organized in the framework of the project “Mapping controversial memories in the historic urban landscape: a multidisciplinary study of Beijing, Mexico City and Rome » funded by the Swiss Network for International Studies (2015-2017). The project aims to produce a comparative, multidisciplinary study on the impact of UNESCO’s Recommendation on the historic urban landscape (2011), which seeks to integrate conservation and development in urban policies.

The workshop brought together an EPFL research team with the Mexican and Italian local research teams (Universidad autonomà Metropolitana Iztapalapa, Mexico-City and ETICity, Rome). It focused on the comparison between the historic center of Mexico-City and the industrial site of Ostiense, on which 2 EDAR PhD candidates are currently conducting fieldwork.
