Katrin Beyer gave invited seminars at Tongji University and Tokyo Tech

Katrin Beyer visited two top universities in Asia - Tongji University in Shanghai and Tokyo Institute of Technology in Tokyo - and gave seminars on "Seismic response of core walls – open questions after the earthquakes in Chile and New Zealand". At Tongji University she visited the research groups by Prof. Jianbing Chen and Prof. Xiaodan Ren. Both professors are experts in modelling uncertainties with regard to structural components and entire structural systems and exchanged views on different topics related to the analysis and testing of RC structures. She also got the chance to visit the first-class experimental facitilities of the university including the new earthquake engineering laboratory with the world's largest shake table infrastructure. At Tokyo Institute of Technology, Katrin Beyer visited Prof. Sam Kono, an expert on RC structures, who shares her interest in RC wall behaviour. Prof. Kono also organised a visit of the research campus of Taisei, one of Japan's five largest construction companies. The R&D section of the company comprises more than 200 employees, which have impressive large-scale testing facilities at their disposal.
