Seminar on: Behaviour at elevated temperature and in fire of advanced composite materials used in civil engineering structures.
Tuesday, July 4th 2017, 15h - GC C3 30

Summary: This presentation addresses the behaviour at elevated temperature and under fire exposure of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composite materials. The first part of this talk briefly describes the main features of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) materials used in civil engineering structural applications, namely (i) glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) pultruded profiles, (ii) GFRP bars for internal reinforcement and (iii) carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) strengthening systems for reinforced concrete members. In the second part of the presentation, the most relevant results obtained in recent research projects (Figures 1 and 2) conducted at Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon) about the fire behaviour of advanced composite materials are presented and discussed.

Biography: João Ramôa Correia, born in 1978, graduated in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) / University of Lisbon (UL) in 2001 and received his MSc and PhD degrees in 2004 and 2008, respectively, also from IST/UL. Since 2016, he is Full Professor at IST/UL, teaching the subjects of construction technology, rehabilitation and new materials. His research interests are concerned with advanced FRP composites, structural glass, building pathology and rehabilitation.
